The Fulani Socio-Cultural groups in Taraba on Monday endorsed the candidature of Atiku Abubakar and Governor Darius Ishaku as their Presidential and Governorship candidates for next months general elections.

His Excellency, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku addressing the Fulani Socio-Cultural groups at Government House Jalingo.

North East National Zonal Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Mafindi Danburam who led the groups and their Ardos (Chiefs) to endorse Governor Darius Ishaku and Atiku at Government House in Jalingo, said the decision was in the best interest of Fulanis in the country.

Danburam who before now was one of the strong critics of Governor Ishaku and the his Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, said the decision to endorse Governor Ishaku and Atiku was taken after wide consultation with critical stakeholders.

The Fulani leader said they had before now opposed the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranching establishment Law because they were miss informed about government good intention about the law.

“We never knew the Governor’s good intention and we seriously opposed him over the Anti Open Grazing Law. You are aware we even went to court, but the Governor had remained calm and even suspended further action on the law.

“Today, we have come to compensate him for his patience and to give him and Atiku our support in the coming election for the good of Taraba and Nigeria.

“As a people, we have lose a lot in our fight with the government and we think this is not necessary. The Governor has promised to amend some aspects of the open grazing Prohibition law and we will wait to see it,” he said.

Danburam while drumming support for Governor Ishaku said ranching was the best way of modern animal rearing.

Receiving the Fulani Groups at the Government House, Governor Darius Ishaku thanked them for the support and assured that his administration will carry all the people of the state along.

“I never hated Fulani and I will never do that. The law I enacted was in the best interest of all and I am happy that you have realised and come back. We will work together for the good of Taraba state,” he said.
