A high powered delegation of UNICEF today visited His Excellency, Gov. Darius Dickson Ishaku in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The delegation was led by Mr. Bhanu Pathak, UNICEF Field Officer in North East who briefed the Governor on the activities of the international body in the State and in the North East.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, Gov. Ishaku thanked UNICEF for doing a good job in areas ravaged by insurgency in the North East.
He said he ensured his administration paid all counterpart funds for joint programmes between the state and UNICEF because that is the only way the state could benefit sufficiently from the body.
The Governor briefed the visitors on the achievements of his administration in the areas of health and education, promising to take Taraba from its present number 8th position to number one position in WAEC performance in the country by the end of his administration.
He also told the delegation that his administration has reconstructed three major hospitals, one in each of the senatorial zones.
Gov. Ishaku also spoke of the provision of water as another major area of achievement of his administration and called for more help and promised that the administration would perform four times better in its second tenure.
The leader of the delegation, Mr Bhanu Pathak praised Gov. Ishaku for his support for UNICEF and called for more of such support in such areas such as education and health.
He thanked Gov. Ishaku for prompt payment of counterpart funds in various areas of collaboration with UNICEF, noting that this was responsible for the success of the agency in Taraba State.
Mr. Bhanu said the body had supported the state to gather statistics on the out of school children and also in the training of 3000 teachers.
